Barefoot Under the Storyteller Moon

It's time to start reading for the 2012-2013 Maine Student Book Awards!
I will be updating this page with information in the near future, but in the meantime, the list can be found here
This year's program for students in the fourth and fifth grades, and another for 6th through 8th grades, will run through March 2013, with the students then voting in April 2013 for their favorite book from the list.  I will again be running book groups for home schooled youth and the community in various locations.

The 2011/2012 MSBA Vote took place in schools and libraries the last week in March and I was pleased to be a part of the process.
The winner is: Smile  by Raina Telgemeier - 746 votes
Second: Out of My Mind  by Sharon M. Draper - 379 votes
Third: The Red Pyramid  by Rick Riordan - 365 votes

There was a 2011/2012 MSBA group during the Summer Reading Program, at the Mount View Elementary School Library. We met Wednesdays from 2pm-3pm, July 6th through August 17th 2011. (you are invited to visit the Mount View Elementary School MSBA blog: )
*The five titles below are what I had copies available of to start with, though students were free to choose from any of the other books on the entire list.

*If you are interested in purchasing these books yourself, I have provided links for these books through Amazon for ease of ordering, as they are often the least expensive. Some titles are also available through the Scholastic Book Club, and if you chose to buy through them instead you will earn free books for the entire Mount View Elementary Summer Reading Program. After you and log on to the Scholastic Store,  and create your parent password, use the classroom code HL23F and you will be able to view the classroom wish lists and recommendations from the MSBA list. (some may appear more than once as they are in multiple catalogs) You are also free to browse and shop for any other books there. All books can be picked up at the Summer Reading Program.
